About Pierport Pony ClubPierport Pony Club is a Northern West Michigan chapter of the United States Pony Club. We are part of the Great Lakes Regional Pony Clubs and are based in a small community within Manistee county, located on the shore of Lake Michigan. The area is beautiful, the people are friendly, and we're lucky to have such an amazing place to call home. The club was officially established in the spring of 2013. We look forward to providing our members with opportunities for leadership, sportsmanship, and learning through horses.
Our MissionThe United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.
What Makes Pony Club DifferentUSPC is unique because its educational programs place equal emphasis on the teaching of riding skills, horse-care fundamentals, and team participation with sportsmanship. From the moment youth join USPC until they graduate, they are part of a broad network of activities and educational programs that promote the health and safety of both horse and rider. USPC is dedicated to developing knowledgeable, competent, responsible, and caring horse-people.

What Do Members Do in Pony Club
Learn…
Pony Club members participate in mounted meetings where the basics of riding skills are taught continually at all levels. Mounted meetings are often structured so that older, more experienced members who are serious about setting and pursuing their goals may practice at their level of intensity. Younger members are offered lots of fun mixed in with quality educational opportunities. There are also unmounted meetings that provide instruction on Horse Management.

Through participation in club activities, members work their way through certificate levels established by U.S. Pony Club’s Standards of Proficiency. At a certification, members demonstrate their riding and Horse Management skills. Members also participate in competitive rallies against other clubs, which provides an opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in an atmosphere of cooperation, fun and teamwork.

Cooperation, confidence and leadership are all traits that Pony Club develops in its members and these are best built up by teaching. Peer-to-peer teaching is a central part of Pony Club. Through mentoring, older Pony Club members are assigned to younger members so that they can work together, gain self-confidence in their skills, and learn how to lead others.
